New Community Site For Psychology Professionals
I’m pulling back the curtain on the brand new psychology community site that I’ve been working really hard to put together. You can find it here: Chicago Psychology.
The idea is to provide a place for mental health professionals and psychology researchers to:
- Promote their practices and promote themselves to potential employers
- Share information about new research and clinical insights
- Network with like-minded psychology professionals in order to build up a good professional reputation and get good jobs
Psychology professionals can create their own free web sites on ChicagoPsychology.org. I’ve moved all of my own professional activities off of davidgodot.com, which will now be strictly my personal web site, to here: David Godot’s Clinical Psychology Site. I have just finished moving all of my posts about professional development and training onto that site, and am looking forward to seeing other psychotherapists do the same!
There is a major benefit to hosting a psychology site under the umbrella of Chicago Psychology, which is that you are pooling your own authority together with the authority of every other psychological professional who uses the site. I explain it in much greater detail here: why a free chicago psychology blog is better than a web site you pay for.
In addition to being able to put up a web site to promote your practice or CV, mental health professionals can also join groups and interact with peers in their area of interest. Professors tell you that you should always attend conferences and network with professionals in the niche you would like to work in, but I think this will be even better than conference attendance. Because it allows you to directly interact with and share ideas with other professionals over an extended period of time, and to give people a sense of who you really are and how your interests are manifested.
Toward this end, Chicago Psychology has a number of psychology group blogs where you can post your views, opinions, as well as sharing new articles and research that you find. This is a really good way to build up a professional reputation and establish yourself as an expert in the field.
